Westpac Censors Facebook?

by Jim May 5, 2011

Given the monumental outage of Westpac EFT systems today people are bound to talk about it. Some people are very angry.. well most of them are from my reading actually. A merchant who relies on this system, might be inclined to rant and bemoan the lack of a transaction facility for their business. Not Scott Kilmartin of @haul though, who put up this offer on Facebook today.

“SALE, SALE, SALE!

In honour of Westpac leaving us high and dry with an EFPTOS machine & online payment gateway experiencing ‘technical difficulties’ we’ve decided to have a SALE.

ALL Westpac & St George customers get %33 off EVERYTHING in our North Fitzroy store.

Methods of Payment:
CASH, rubber cheques, IOU’s scribbled on the back of beer coasters (with a note from your mum saying you’ll cough up the coin).

Raid that rainy day stash, smash that piggy bank and show Gus your ATM cards (what else are you going to do with them today) at the door.

fine print:
SALE ends whenever Westpac comes online.

Great huh? I shared that to my friends. When Scott tried to share my comment he got this message. Westpac censors Facebook
I tried to share it as well but couldn’t. So then I uploaded this screen cap.A few of my friends tried to share it and they couldn’t. The trigger may have been the keyword Westpac. Here’s how you can play along at home. Write something about Westpac on Facebook and then try to share it. If it gets blocked don’t forget to take a screen cap. This is how NOT to do social media if indeed they are responsible for the blocking.
EDIT: You could argue because Scott’s original post said”sale, sale, sale” it triggered a spam filter but not this image Facebook Westpac censorship
