Google Rich Cards
I think I need to change the day I do the show as Google seems to make announcements as I’m uploading. Today is no exception. I’ll have the vid out a bit later today on unrelated matters but I wanted to quickly tell you about Google rich cards, which of course was announced today!
What Are Rich Cards
Rich cards are an extension of Google rich snippets which allow web masters to use structured data markup to enhance how they are displayed in search. Featured answers or rich answers are a version of these as are featured products. As I pointed out last week, in my opinion by Google implementing these snippets their basically saying “our results are rubbish, this is what we think you really want. ”
According to Google these rich cards are the evolution of rich snippets.
At the moment Google is only rolling these out to movie & recipe results in Google.com only but the represent a huge opportunity for businesses in these verticals. Here is what you will see in Google Search Console if you are in either of these categories.
Go and have a look in there and see what Google is complaining about. For example, in the recipes above they are missing structured data for nutrition or cooking time information. If you are using a recipe plugin, check with the provider to see when they will have support for rich cards. The full announcement from Google can be found here
