Google Profile is the new PageRank

by Jim July 13, 2011

A big call I know but stay with me. What I mean by that is that in the future the value of your Google profile will carry more weight than say the number of backlinks to a post. In fact Google has recently wrote a nice post on why you shouldn’t worry about PageRank anymore.

Google+

With the advent of Google+, +1s and how other accounts like twitter, reddit etc are linked to your Google profile and show up in the SERPs if you have shared or recommended a URL from any of these linked accounts, Google is attempting to make search results more relevant for you. Showing you results that your network has recommended.

Like every change that Google makes to the algorithm, they are trying to make their results more relevant to their users and this has become very obvious with the launch of Google+ . In today’s vlog I take a look at a couple of examples and how I think this will play out in the future. Your online reputation and the reputation of those that share your content will be more important than PageRank ever was.
