Digital Marketing and Media Summit

Digital Marketing and Media Summit

From the clowns that brought you the Advertising marketing and media summit. They are spamming again. I have repeatedly tried to get off these people harvested list. How do I know it's harvested? Because of the address they are spamming only appear on one web site. I have called them and repeatedly emailed them.

They give online marketing a bad name. I can't believe Google is associating their brand with these spammers. They are worse than the NAB.

The hype around Google Chrome has been huge! Here is a the latest "EasterEgg" in Google Chrome. Type about:internets into the omnibox.

Today I do a quick follow up and then focus on keyword analysis tools. Specifically I take a look at 4 tools (3 from Google) and see if the numbers that Google is telling me stack up... they don't.

What to do when Google fibs

Google SEO

Google SEO

People are always asking me what the latest Google SEO trick is.

The trick is that there is no trick. Google SEO is all about good content and making sure other sites know about your content, as well as having a healthy, logical site structure.

Any strategy other than that is a short term one. The reason being that Google is a bit clever. It can work out various tricks and scams that are in violation of their terms of service and will boot you out of their index quicker than you can say "search engine optimiswhatthe?"

By creating good content other sites will link to yours and Google will notice you more. As long as you follow the Google SEO tips we have on this site for laying out your content as well as update consistently you will rank high.

There is no trick.

Google Chrome road test

Google Chrome road test

In case you missed it, Google launched a new browser today called Google Chrome.

I took it for a test drive this morning and it tried to eat my CPU but it is still in beta so I can't complain. Also I road testing it in Windows in parallels on a Mac so you would expect it to be a little CPU intensive.

It looks like Google maybe thinking of becoming the operating system for net access.

Google Chrome

Posted by admin in Untagged

Google Chrome

I'll do a show on this tomorrow but I wanted to give put the link up today. So what is Google Chrome? It has nothing to do with chroming, the Aussie slang for sniffing petrochemical based substances.

Google Chrome is a new browser. You may think it a little odd that Google should release it's own browser but when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

The main problem with accessing the net for most people is that they have to have a windows PC. That means usually forking out around $1000 for a hunk of tin that will be obsolete in 18 months.

Whilst the user base of general computing continues to grow, so does the user base who only need a browser on a mobile device.

They do not need a bloated operating system to simply access the net. Heck, most people only use their PCs these days to access the net for email and web, maybe a little bit of word processing. So the future for most users is device dominant - i.e. iphone, android, STBs etc. The OS is not a part of this picture.

What I am now waiting for is to find out what deals Google is doing with device manufacturers. Initially Google Chrome will only be available for Windows users but they are working on a Mac and Linux version as well. More in the show tomorrow.

Today I have a look at what they're doing and how they can improve their online strategy. There are also some tips about ranking that apply to everyone's web site.

Yellow Pages Vs Google part 2

Yellow Pages Vs Google part 2

Two weeks ago I did a story on the Yellow Pages promotion claiming that your ad may now be found in Google because they were allowing Google to index their ads. I'm revisiting the story this week because it seems no one told Google. You need to have your OWN web site ranked high. Not a listing in someone else's directory.

I will be continuing the Yellow Pages theme next week with some free suggestions on where I think the Yellow Pages future lies.

iPhone kills mms et al

Coming to you from Vietnam this week, I explain my experience with the iPhone and why it is changing the the wireless access model completely.

I'm in Vietnam this week but I have been wanting to tell as many people that would listen why the iPhone is so important to your business and how it will release the stranglehold of the telcos on your customer's online activity.

MMS is now dead, imode is dead (sorry Telstra, in case you missed it's muffled whimpering demise). The iPhone will finally unleash the business power of mobile access.

This week I explain why the iPhone is important to your business.... from the sunny shores of Nhatrang, Vietnam :-) .
