For us we have videos to be published to multiple sites on a weekly basis as well as watch those outlets where we publish and respond where necessary. In addition to that, there are people asking questions all the time on Twitter that we can answer & help with. That it turn opens up our brand to new networks. To me the opportunities are so massive that we need one person responsible for co-ordinating our efforts. btw the reason I don't auto publish comments automatically is because of companies like the Prosperity Principle. I don't want our site littered with other businesses commercial comments. Not only that but because we don't nofollow I don't want to wake up one morning to find all our Google link love has leaked out through a thousand backlink holes to SEO parasites. - Jim

Interesting point Jim and I think many businesses will need to go down this path to keep up with the ever changing availability of social media outlets. I have noticed a number of Virtual Assistants (VA's) that have jumped on board the Social Media movement for their own businesses, are now offering these sorts of services to current & prospective clients. It will be very interesting to see where SM will be at in 5yrs time - there are many businesses that are far from embracing it - will they be in 5yrs time? - Kirsty Wilson

This is really interesting Jim, especially how you look back on the other similar jobs. Based on the many large organizations I have spent time with, I'd say you are right. - David Meerman Scott
